Martin Czerny, MD
Dr. Martin Czerny is a distinguished cardiac and vascular surgeon with an eMBA. He completed his surgical training under the mentorship of Professor Wolner in Vienna.
Until June 2013, he served as an Attending Surgeon and Director of Clinical Research at Inselspital Berne. Subsequently, from 2013 to 2014, Dr. Czerny worked as a consultant at the University Clinic of Cardiovascular Surgery in Zurich.
In 2015, he assumed the role of Senior Consultant Cardiovascular Surgeon at the University Hospital Freiburg. There, he has undertaken multiple leadership roles including:
- Director of the Aortic Center
- Section Head of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery
- Co-Director of the Thoracic Organ Transplantation Center for heart and lung.
By 2020, Dr. Czerny expanded his responsibilities further:
- Chairman of the Cardiovascular Surgery Working Group of ESC
- Chairman of the Aortic Commission of DGTHG
- Associate Editor for the European Heart Journal
In 2021, he also became an Associate Editor for the International Journal of Cardiology. In recognition of his significant contributions to the field, he was awarded the Heisenberg Professorship for Open and Endovascular Aortic Surgery at the Albert Ludwigs University Freiburg in October 2020.
Most recently, as of August 2022, Dr. Czerny has taken on the role of Director of the Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery at the University Heart Center, affiliated with the University Clinic of Albert Ludwigs University Freiburg.
