Julia Dumfarth graduated as a medical doctor from the Medical University of Vienna. During her residency in cardiac surgery, she transferred from the Medical University of Vienna to the Medical University of Innsbruck, where she earned a PhD in cardiovascular medicine.

Subsequently, she completed a research fellowship at the Yale New Haven Aortic Institute. Currently, she serves as an academic staff surgeon at the Medical University of Innsbruck, specializing in aortic diseases and heart transplantation.

Her primary scientific focus is on aortic diseases, particularly aortic dissection. As a member of VASCERN, she also has a keen interest in genetic aortopathies.
